Wood sculptor

Darlene a native of Iowa vacationing numerous times in Branson, MO always marveled at the art of woodcarving. After a return trip in the mid 90’s a neighbor lady, who had done a little carving, handed her two blocks of wood, a knife, and told her to give carving a try. Married, raising four children, and working for her husband’s trucking company she found the wonderful, relaxing art of woodcarving. Darlene enjoys carving, making quilts, fishing and spending time with the children and ten grandchildren.
Darlene is known for carving life size baby dolls. She always made a doll for her youngest daughter at Christmas, that is how Heavens Wooden Babies started. All Heaven’s Wooden Babies are named, numbered, dated, signed and come with a certificate of authenticity.
Darlene carves numerous things from Indians, Santa's, animals, mountain men, civil war soldiers and caricatures. She has won many Best of Show and 1st place ribbons at carving shows all over the country, including the International Woodcarvers Congress Show.
Darlene has carved at Silver Dollar City, in Branson, MO for eight years and has done many carving demos. She has taught many carving workshops and also held adult carving classes for five years at the local college. Darlene’s artwork has been displayed at numerous galleries around the country including Peter Englander’s carving shop at the Grand Village in Branson, MO. She belongs to many carving clubs, Siouxland Artists and The Gallery.
