Sharon (Shari to some),  was born and raised in Norfolk, NE.   She moved to Sioux City, IA in 1963, after hearing about Briar Cliff College on KMNS radio.  (that was when only girls were allowed to attend!)  Sharon began her career as an art instructor in Sergeant Bluff, IA, in 1964, teaching grades k-12.  In 1976, Sharon left Sergeant Bluff and began teaching in Sioux City Community School District.  She did everything, from elementary art, middle school art for the talented and gifted, to head Visual Arts teacher in the district, to curriculum writing.  Sharon also taught elementary art methods at Morningside College from 1999 to 2003.
In 2005, Sharon decided that it was time to "grow Up", and become a "real artist"!  Because of Sharon's dealings with young people who always want to know how to draw what they see, Sharon drew and painted objectively, and used that "reality skill" to express her own thoughts and emotions on paper and canvas.  Many of her pieces still reflect that style.  She continues to pick up classes at the Sioux City Art Center, whenever possible.  She wants to "stretch" her palette, and her creative brain.  Some of her most recent pieces reflect a more abstract expressionistic approach.
Siouxland Artists has kept Sharon busy, maintaining the website for the last 4 years, and "scouting" for new possibilities and horizons for members.

Sharon was elected as Siouxland Artist Secretary in May 2009, and she took over the monthy newsletter and passed her webmaster position down to member Pat LeClair. Sharon is a busy lady. Sharon and her husband, Mike, are busy with their children and grandchilden and they to spend time at their summer home in Minnesota. She also open her home to her many artist friends to get together and paint and just have fun together.

Shari welcomes new members with open arms, and loves to see them develop their creative as well as technical skills.  What a wonderful media to share your thoughts--the visual arts!!!
In Spring of 2008, Sharon was awarded the Peoples Choice Award.
